reiki aftercare

You’ve had a reiki session - now what? Here are some suggestions on what to do after your reiki session. It’s important to note that even if you do nothing after your session, REIKI WILL STILL WORK! Every one of us is wonderfully unique and my best advice is to be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR REIKI SESSION:
Try and eat something light and drink plenty of water.
A FEW HOURS AFTER YOUR REIKI SESSION:
Your symptoms may appear to feel worse or you may feel nothing at all. This is all normal. Stay hydrated. Avoid taking a bath for 12 hours following a session to help your energy stabilize.
THE DAY/EVENING AFTER YOUR REIKI SESSION:
Please take time to relax with a warm salt bath or a salt scrub shower followed by quiet time or meditation. Try and get a good night’s sleep.
(For the salt bath: Add at least two cups of salt (sea salt, epsom salt or a combo) to warm bath water and soak for at least 20 minutes. Alternatively you can rub sea salt on your body and take a warm shower. This helps to cleanse the body energetically as well as remove toxins from the skin, the body’s largest organ for breathing. )
Your reiki session will be beneficial even if you do not follow these suggestions.
Reiki Moves Energy
During a Reiki session, blocked or stagnant energy may be broken up/released, the energy of trauma or injury transmuted and the flow of your body’s energy directed in a more balanced way. Depending upon how tuned in you are with your own body, you may be aware of these shifts or not. Regardless, changes are taking place.
HEALING REACTIONS
After a Reiki session you may experience physical symptoms such as headache, nausea, fatigue. Occasionally, pain or discomfort will intensify briefly before releasing. These experiences are sometimes referred to as a Healing Reaction or a Healing Catharsis and are usually an indication that the body is detoxifying as it moves through the healing process. Should this happen, extend the regimen recommended above, taking care to stay well hydrated, get plenty of rest, and overall be kind to yourself.
Such symptoms usually fade within a few days. They are more likely to occur if you have not had energy sessions previously, if you have a chronic condition. If symptoms persist, please seek medical attention, as they may be unrelated to the session.
GETTING THE MOST BENEFIT FROM A REIKI SESSION
You may feel energized and excited about taking on new projects or tackling old ones. You may feel tired and need rest. You may want to spend the remainder of your day being quiet. Respond by giving your body what it asks for.
For three days following your Reiki session:
Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine.
Drink enough water to stay well hydrated.
Eat light, healthy meals abundant in vegetables and fruit.
Get adequate rest. Exercise moderately. Avoid strenuous workouts.
Spend time in nature—walk in a park; sit quietly near a body of water.
Meditate or allow yourself quiet time each day.
Minimize screen time.
Notice your feelings and the physical sensations in your body. Pay attention on shifts taking place and insights on anchoring new patterns, allowing them to become habit more easily. Journaling can also help validate impressions that come to you during and following a session.
If you receive other energy work, (ie: massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, sound healing, etc.) try to schedule appointments at least 3 days after receiving a Reiki session.
Following any of the above suggestions will allow the energetic realignments set in motion during the session to stabilize and integrate more effectively on all levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. (But it’s okay if you don’t do anything of this too - Reiki still works!)
